The Process:

1. Your class has been divided into four groups. Each group will have a single candidate, which will be assigned to you by the teacher.

2. Before you beginning your research, download the following forms: Presidential qualification application, and the research collection form. Click here to download forms.

3. Using the websites provided in the webquest, you must research your candidate to determine:

a. The qualifications for the presidency
b. What important contributions they have made to the betterment of society (at least 6 contributions).
c. Any voting history or past political activities.

Note: A list of provided websites are also included. All the information you need about your candidate and the qualifications of a presidential candidate are also included. Click here to see the list of websites for your candidate.

4. Once you have completed your research and completed your forms, you must develop your marketing materials, this must include flyers/ brochures and posters, which uses a slogan (which you create), and states your platform, or what your candidate stands for. You could also make buttons with your candidate’s picture or slogan. You might even want to create a song or a video to accompany your flyers.

a. For examples of slogans used in the past as well as buttons click here

5. Once the flyers/pamphlets have been approved by your teacher, place your posters in the classroom and the 6th grade hall BUT only in the designated areas. (Note the teacher will give you the due date for all posters/marketing materials. Posters, computers, and button makers will be available in class)

6. Finally after a period of three days, a spokesperson from your team will participate in a debate with the other candidates. (Note: a list of possible questions will be provided to all teams prior to the actual debate.

7. Along with the debate, this is also an opportunity to prepare a 5-minute speech about your candidate.

8. Election Time! The other 6th grade classes will vote on which candidate they would like in office.

Good luck! May the best man or woman win!
